Welcome to my trip around the world

Welcome

My return to Canada has been wonderful and eventful! Currently I am in Vancouver working as a Load Zone Attendant in the transportation department. My job consists of assisting the Media from all over the world to get on the correct bus to and from their hotels, venues and the Main Media Center in downtown Vancouver.

This afternoon I have a VERY exciting day. I have bought a ticket to the Preliminary Women’s hockey (Canada vs Sweden) game! I will go watch an old classmate Meaghan and her team on February 17th. Today, I pick up my ticket!

Yesterday, I was at a hotel in Burnaby, and across the street was the Bridges Studio. I tried to watch for stars going in and out, but I only saw golf cars! Anyways, here are a few photos of my time here so far!:

What a great holiday I’ve had. It was really awesome to be home to spend the season with my family and friends. I went to Christmas eve dinner at my grandma Erna s house with my immediate family, tyson, Laurie and the girls. We had a hoot with the Chinese gift
exchange and playing apples to apples. I went to midnight mass in st. Albert and met with a pew full of friends. Christmas day I went to mass with mom in the morning and we had 18 guests to dinner. It was alot of fun and we spent a lovely time skating and sledding outside and visiting with Kent and Michelle until late. Today I am off to the third annual “ugly Christmas sweater party”! It sure is wonderful to be home.

Hello All! I am home, but the trip lives on in the stories, photos and random things I keep finding as I unpack my luggage. I am currently working full time at Greyhound’s parcel department, but I finish that on Christmas Eve and I am looking forward to some more free time before visiting the great white North in mid-January!
Well here it goes:

#1 is a photo from Ireland, when I went back for a week after Egypt.  is my best friend from home. This day we took a long road trip along the very windy roads to Killarney. We went to Dublin together for a great Halloween and I headed off to Dubai: Where I got to see and see how hot the desert really is. I also got to meet a lot of really nice people.

From Dubai, I went to Cambodia. I posted often from there, but here are some of the reasons why I loved it so much.
My REALLY great co-volunteers Alex and Ian, and Shrey a sweet girl who has a HUGE heart.
One of my highlights was helping Raksmey with her french and watching her write emails to Aliya.Meeting the staff at the volunteer center and other volunteers from around the world.
This little boy made me smile everyday with his goofiness and his love.
Watching kids with no toys (other then 2 volleyballs and 1 soccerball) make up games and play in the yard for hours.
Helping to start the building of a treehouse for the kids to play in.
Washing young Keo’s shirt after school….this was before the splashing started :)

It was, as you can imagine an emotional goodbye.

After Cambodia, I had a week in Thailand. Where I met a group from Belgium who spoke French! I went to Thai boxing with them, but it was not very good at all. After that we left on a hike through the Thai jungle from Village to Village. And on the second day I got rammed by this elephant: He looks cute, but he was MEAN! We also went Bamboo rafting down a river.

After the trek we decided to try to brave going into a TIGER CAGE! But they were VERY sleepy. Even Roxanne and Heather couldn’t wake them up. But I think that I look like a pretty fierce tiger in this picture:.I said one last goodbye to Chiang Mai and headed to Australia.

In Melbourne I went to Luna Park on St.Kilda Beach, , it was cool. Then I went to visit my friends in Colac and I spent some time touring around the state with them.

And at last, I have already written about the drama of the trip home and the 76hours of planes and airports, this photo was my: “Well there is nothing we can do about it, so we may as well have fun” pose. After which I went and saw Santa Clause who was visiting the airport on his way to the South Pole for his annual summer dinner.

Home Again!

Bonjour chers lecteurs!
Guess what! I am home. The road was very eventful, Starting in Tazmania, I had some crazy turbulence. When I got to Sydney, I wandered around the airport and went out for a bit of a walk on the beach. Back at the airport, there was a long queue and then I went into the terminal. However, a gas leak causing evacuation of the terminal, then a few hours later my flight cancelled due to mechanical failure. I slept at a nice hotel at the beach. Then back to the airport in the morning, another long line, and then a 16hr flight to Dubai.

After that we flew to London and I ran across the terminal to catch my next flight.

When they announced that it was -46 in Edmonton we all laughed, thinking it was a joke. Turns out, it wasn’t. Also, when we touched down, we were stuck 1hour on the tar mac before we could de-plane. Oh the stories of travel.
Grande totale= 76heures

Now I will rewind a couple of weeks,
Australia was fabulous, I stayed with Kathryn and Nigel awhile and then I went to Healesville to stay with Maddie and her family.

I flew to Hobart and stayed with my Uncle Richard, his partner and the 3 kids. It was fun, we hiked mountains, did tree walks, went to Christmas concerts and shopped.

All in all, this was a trip of a lifetime! I will post again with some photos soon!

xxx Cheers and hope to see you soon!

A few days in Australia

Kathryn came to pick me up from Melbourne and drove me inland and west towards Colac where her and Nigel live. It is a small city that reminds me very much of Yellowknife. Yesterday I spent the morning in the rain forest and the afternoon checking out the picturesque and beautiful 12 apostles. I really like Australia, the people are pleasant and kind, I ate a BIG roast dinner last night at Kathryn’s moms and felt enormously welcome and at ease there.

The countdown to my homecoming has begun, I will be back “Alberta Bound” in 12 days, arriving in 14. This has been the trip of a life time, I am glad that I could share it with you!

Thailand and Beyond!

After Cambodia, I flew back to Bangkok and took the overnight train to Chiang Mai. I went on a 2 day trek through the jungle which included a ride on an elephant and Bamboo rafting. During the elephant ride, the boys rode first and myself and 3 other girls walked behind which was fine until the young elephant saw us and came charging towards us. He hit one girl in the arm with his trunk and then ran himself into my backpack to try and push me into the creek. Fortunately, we walked away a bit shaken up, but with nothing worse then a few bruises. After the trek, I went got 3 massages for under 15$! I visited the night market and prefer Thai vendors because they are less harassing (although they still cheat you, but nicely).

I took a 14 hour bus ride back to Bangkok and got myself to the airport for my flight to Sydney. I was very early, so I wasted the time in Bangkok airport getting one last Thai Massage, a manicure, a pedicure and a foot massage. It was heavenly. My flight was alright and once in Sydney I caught another flight to Melbourne.

While I was arriving a BIG storm was hitting Melbourne, roads and buildings were somewhat flooded and apparently things were a mess, I didn’t see any of it, but the bus driver from the airport talked about how insane it was.

Today I woke up refreshed after a lengthy sleep and went to explore Melbourne, I visited the Victoria Street Market and took the free tram of the city. Tomorrow, if the weather is nicer, I am hitting the beach. Tomorrow afternoon I am meeting friends who are going to take me to their house a few hours from the city on the Ocean road! I am excited.
